CryptoLocker: What you didn’t know about this Ransomware

Going by the chronological order, CryptoLocker is the latest malware to have raised its ugly head in the Internet world. Besides that, it is also the deadliest too!

Here are some must-know facts about CryptoLocker:
  • It is a Trojan horse malware, designed to primarily target Windows PCs.
  • It works in the same fashion as ransomware.  Once it enters your PC, it takes it hostage and demands money from you to release it – all files, folders, documents, e-mails, and others included.
  • It attempts to enter your PC in the guise of legitimate links on e-mails and attachments, mostly from legitimate-looking senders – banks, financial organizations, etc.
  • Most users struggling to recover their PCs and files from the clutches of CryptoLocker have shared that they were demanded a ransom of $300.
  • However, there is no guarantee to the recovery of the files even after you have paid the ransom.
Indeed, it is a one-way traffic here. The only way out is to remain safe and not let ‘yourself’ be victimized by this nasty malware. To do it:
  • Install a solid security solution that can prevent CryptoLocker from getting downloaded and installed in your PC.
  • Scan your PC regularly and keep your antivirus solution always updated.
  • Back up your files regularly.
  • Create separate user accounts, if your PC is shared among different members. The lesser the controls you give to the different account users, the better it will be for you…
  • Enjoy your online activities while being safe.
